What are your services?
Eddy company offers investment management, tax preparation, tax planning, bookkeeping, payroll services, financial planning and business consulting. Please contact us with your specific needs and we will return your request promptly.
Why is a financial plan important?
Without a complete plan in dealing with your finances, it is easy to steer off track. Although many advisors can complete a financial plan for you, a planner with the CFP® designation is especially trained and educated to complete this important process for you. Fee-only advice provided by Eddy Company, LLC aligns the incentives of you and your advisor.
What is your investment philosophy?
Adhering to a long-term investment plan though market fluctuations versus attempting to time the market is the core of the firm’s advice. As supported by some recent studies, the firm believes the majority of investment returns are derived from a portfolio’s asset allocation. Therefore, research is focused on the weightings of asset classes, and capturing excess return due to these weightings. Access to various asset classes can be achieved via lower cost ETF’s (Exchange Traded Funds). High cost investments can erode return over time. Low-cost, tax-efficient investing is a priority in formulating investment recommendations.
What makes you different from other advisors?
Eddy Company, LLC is a registered investment advisor. The firm is independent, and makes investment decisions in-house. Therefore, the only “product” that the firm offers is a very personalized financial plan and structured portfolio for your individual needs. The firm has no incentives to offer any particular fund or other investment to you. Therefore, the advice given is totally unbiased. The firm offers advice that is cost-efficient, and strives to achieve your long-term investment goals. Also, with both tax preparation and investment management, everything can be done virtually. With state-of-the-art technology, Eddy Company protects your sensitive personal data.
What are your fees?
Our assets-under-management (AUM) fee for professional investment management is reasonable and negotiable. Fees are generally tiered based on size of account.
What is your performance?
Performance is specific to account. The firm strives to construct diversified, long-term portfolios that at least match the relevant asset weighted benchmark after fund expenses. The firm believes that much of portfolio performance is derived from asset allocation, which is constructed based on risk tolerance and long-term goals/constraints. Your assigned advisor can give you more information on historical firm performance.
Is your firm a “Robo-Advisor”?
No. Robo-Advisors are typically firms that invest clients’ money based on algorithms that derive a long-term investment objective based on an initial questionnaire determining risk tolerance. Investments are typically automatically re-balanced based on market movements. In most cases, a human advisor is not involved in investment planning decisions.
Eddy Company offers clients a real human relationship between you and your advisor. The firm recognizes the need to continually monitor changes in life circumstances and risk tolerance, while offering you low cost investment vehicles to achieve long-term goals. We feel that algorithms cannot achieve that necessary human element from a seasoned professional.
Are fees paid to your firm tax deductible?
Yes, with certain limitations. Section 212 of the Internal Revenue Code permits an itemized deduction for tax and/or investment advice on the miscellaneous section of Schedule A on your federal income tax return. It is currently subject to a 2% floor of adjusted gross income.
What if my account goes down? Do I have any protection or insurance against losses?
Securities offered through Eddy Company, LLC are not FDIC insured. They may lose principal value. However, there are hedging strategies using certain securities that can lower volatility of your portfolio. Ask your advisor about using strategies to lower volatility and potential losses in your portfolio.
What about SIPC insurance on securities? I heard that this can insure up to $500,000 of my portfolio against loss.
Our custodian, Interactive Brokers, LLC, will hold your securities. Interactive Brokers, LLC carries SIPC Securities Investor Protection Act insurance for accounts. More about Interactive Brokers, LLC can be obtained at IB Group Strength and Security. This insurance covers up to $500,000 for securities and cash missing due to fraudulent activity. This insurance does not cover losses due to normal market fluctuations. Your advisor works hard to create an investment portfolio that matches your long-term risk tolerance as well as constraints listed on your Investment Policy Statement.
